Denielle Bassels

Denielle Bassels is an exciting Toronto vocalist, songwriter, and bandleader. Her voice has been described as Julie London meets Amy Winehouse and Ella Fitzgerald; and her music akin to Koop, Nouvelle Vague, and Nina Simone. While influenced by jazz giants, her sound remains her own; romantic, modern and unique.

Denielle began her musical path after a dream sent her seeking relief from a tumultuous life. Following a series of serendipitous events, Denielle found herself breathing in the fresh alpine air of Lausanne, Switzerland working as an Au Pair (nanny). At a nearby jazz school where the little boy she looked after took music lessons, Denielle met teachers, students, and artists who introduced her to the jazz scene and the European music culture. At a jam session at the Hotel De Ville, an untrained Denielle sang a rendition of Ella Fitzgerald's "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered", and quickly caught the attention of the musicians that would then make up her first jazz combo.
