Ottawa jazz pianist and composer Peter Hum returns to Upstairs with his Ordinary Heroes sextet, which is both a Canadian all-star unit and a special reunion of long-time friends, including Antigonish, NS-based tenor saxophonist Kenji Omae and Juno Award-winning guitarist Mike Rud, a former Montrealer who now calls Nelson, BC, home.

The band will play exhilarating and lyrical modern jazz, including original compositions from Peter’s 2020 sextet album Ordinary Heroes, which received four stars from DownBeat magazine.

London Jazz News called Peter’s album “a very satisfying set packing an emotional punch” while Danish reviewer Ivan Rod commented: “The surface is accessible, melodic and modern mainstream jazz, but it contains many other deeper and finer layers. It is in the long run very poignant, beautiful and complex music.”
