KULUSÉ SOURIANT – A ROY HARGROVE CHRONOLOGY

Roy Hargrove was a visionary trumpeter and composer who helped shape the sound of contemporary jazz. Hargrove’s music career spanned over three decades, during which he released numerous critically acclaimed albums and collaborated with a wide range of artists from Bobby Watson and Herbie Hancock to Erykah Badu and D’Angelo.

Kulusé Souriant (who coincidentally shares Roy’s Birthday) wanted to showcase the incredible breadth of Roy Hargrove’s artistry, from the classic hard-bop of his early days to the innovative, boundary-pushing sound of RH Factor, highlighting the unique voice and vision of this jazz legend.

He gathered a group of respected Montreal jazz musicians, each with a lifelong connection to Roy Hargrove’s music, to help him pay tribute to the legendary trumpeter.

Roy Hargrove passed away on November 2, 2018, at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most innovative and influential jazz musicians of his generation. His music continues to inspire and influence new generations of jazz artists, and his contributions to the genre will be remembered for years to come.
