For this third and final concert in his guest series, Carl Mayotte invites you to an exceptional encounter with one of the most prominent drummers on the current New York jazz scene: Jonathan Barber.
It was at the Ralph Angelillo International Drum Fest in 2022 that Carl and Jonathan met. Impressed by his unique, modern, and explosive playing, the bassist knew he would one day want to invite him to Quebec to create a musical encounter freely exploring their respective worlds.
Since then, Jonathan Barber’s career has been a remarkable rise. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in contemporary jazz, including Christian McBride, Tivon Pennicott, Wallace Roney, and many others, in addition to leading his own project, Jonathan Barber & Vision Ahead.
Considered one of the most promising drummers of the new generation of American jazz, Jonathan Barber brings a unique energy to the crossroads of modern jazz, groove, and fusion. On the program: compositions by Carl and Jonathan, for an evening marked by creativity and virtuosity.
